Get inspections

All permitted projects will need inspections. Some parts of your project will need inspections before and during the work.

Here's the basic process for getting inspections:

  1. You start work on your project.

Your project will likely need inspections before all the work is complete. So be sure to pay attention to your specific requirements.

  2. You schedule an inspection.

You'll do this by calling 503-823-7000 or by scheduling on DevHub ↗ (under Inspections).

  3. The inspector will show up and review the work.

They'll communicate any issues to you in writing. If you need to make changes, you'll do that and then schedule another inspection.

  4. Once all the work passes inspection, you're done!

Your permit is finalized. It's time to enjoy your new ADU.

For projects that need erosion control measures:

Your project will need your erosion control measures inspected before, during, and at the end of your project. We call this last inspection a "210 inspection."

To prepare for your 210 inspection, follow these measures after your project is wrapped up:

  • Complete all grading and ground-disturbing activities.
  • Remove all temporary erosion and sediment control measures, including perimeter controls and inlet protection.
  • Cover all exposed ground with permanent stabilization (vegetation, seed, paving, or mulch) according to approved plans.
  • Install all required landscaping as shown in the approved plan.
  • Clear the site and nearby properties of all construction debris.
  • Keep all discharge points free of sediment and trash.
