Finalize your permit

This page covers what happens after inspections and how to close out your ADU project.

If you got your inspection, you're so close to being done!

Your inspector will email you the inspection results. If the work is approved, then your permit is considered finalized, and you're completely done!

If your project didn't pass the inspection, you'll need to make changes based on the inspection results. After making those changes, schedule a re-inspection.

If you need a re-inspection:

If an issue comes up during an inspection, you’ll need to make changes and then get it inspected again. We make this process easy with a remote video reinspection, or RVR.

These virtual appointments happen on Microsoft Teams. You can access Teams from a web browser or you can download the app on a mobile device.

Steps for getting a remote video re-inspection (RVR)

  1. Test that your device connection is reliable.
    • Please ignore any other calls that might come in during your RVR. If we can’t finish the RVR for whatever reason, you’ll need to schedule another appointment.
  2. Gather the tools you’ll need for the RVR.
    • Flashlight
    • Tape measure
    • Ladder
  3. Schedule the appointment.
    • Book the appointment and follow the instructions we email you.
    • Use that email if you need to reschedule.
    • An RVR can only cover one permit at a time.
  4. Prepare the scene.
    • Make sure your device has enough charge.
    • Be ready to share video from your device.
    • Make sure the project site is quiet enough for a clear call.
  5. Start the RVR call.
    • Click on Join your Appointment in your confirmation email.
    • You can join up to 15 minutes early. If the inspector is available, they can join early.
    • The inspector will wait for five minutes if you aren’t there on time. Then, they’ll have to move on and you’ll need to schedule another RVR.
    • The inspector will ask to see the changes you’ve made before they can approve the work.
  6. Get your RVR results.
    • The inspector will tell you if the project is approved or not.
    • They’ll enter the results in DevHub right after the call.
    • We’ll send the inspection report to the email you used to book the call. If you need to make any changes, that information will be in the email.
