Prepare your files

We ask you to follow certain rules to make sure our system can process the documents you send us. It’s good to keep in mind that all your files and drawings should be very clear and organized.

Here are a few specific rules:

File naming

All your files should have really clear names. Don't put any personally identifying info in the file names. Use these names, or similar:

  • Building Permit Application.pdf
  • Zoning Permit Application.pdf
  • Owner Doing Work Form.pdf
  • Plan Set.pdf

For all site and structural plans

  • All drawings should be the same sheet size.
  • Send digital plans as a single PDF file with this name: Plan Set.pdf.
  • Draw your site plan to a scale of 1 inch = 10 feet or more.
  • Include a north arrow.
  • Plans must be in black and white, clearly legible, and reproducible.
  • Use 12-point font for all dimensions and notes.
  • Don't send files that are password-protected.

If you're submitting your application materials in person:

  • Your plans need to be on substantial paper.
  • Black and white copies only.
  • Use permanent black ink.

We will scan your paper plans and review them digitally. Call 503-823-7300 to get help setting up an in-person appointment.
