BODs are typically smaller in scope and address simpler questions. Code Guides provide a comprehensive alternative to a complicated set of code requirements.

BOD 19-04: Residential demolition slab salvage

City Title 24.55.100 Demolition

QUESTION: Is it allowable to demolish a one- or two-family accessory structure and leave the slab (on grade) as a parking strip, patio, or similar use?

RESPONSE: Yes, the floor slab of an accessory structure may be retained.  No objects shall protrude from the slab such as anchor bolts or pipes.  Future use of the slab as part of a newly built structure will require verification from a design professional that the slab is adequate for the proposed use and imposed structural loads and complies with all applicable codes for new construction.

HISTORY: Implemented June 29, 2019.
